The root of all evil

College student and aspiring architect, Tony Thornton, meets Kyra Thompson after a street fair in Boston erupts in gunfire. Tony is attempting to save a little girl's life when he is caught in the cross fire between two rival gangs. Kyra, a beautiful woman with a promising modeling career, retrieves up Tony's jacket and wallet after he is taken to the hospital with gunshot wounds. When she delivers the wallet, the sparks begin to fly. Kyra is impressed with Tony's unselfishness in almost giving his life to save that of a child. Tony is impressed with Kyra's principles in spite of living in a neighborhood where sexual immorality and loose living is the norm. Soon they embark on a relationship and feel they can't exist without each other. Quickly, the wedding bells are sounding. Shortly after they marry, Tony wins a lottery and sweet, wonderful Kyra turns into a money grubbing monster. Will their marriage survive?

PASSIONATE MISFORTUNES by Stacey Stephon Harris is a fascinating story of how money can change the sweetest person into the world's worst witch. The characters are well developed and you can feel their emotions, their hates and their pain. There were some grammatical errors, as well as issues with quotation marks that sometimes left you wondering who was speaking. If those were cleared up it would be a stunning work of art. Harris does leave us hanging and waiting for the sequel, due in 2007. I am looking forward to it.
